Released on - Tuesday,14 September , 2010 -23:18 A bomb blast damaged four police cars outside the Bahraini capital Manama on Tuesday without causing any casualties, said the chief of police, General Tareq bin Dina.
In remarks carried by the official BNA news agency, Dina said an investigation had been opened into what he called a terrorist attack, which occurred in the suburb of Hamad City.
Meanwhile, last Wednesday, security forces foiled a plot to set off car bombs at "vital sites" in Bahrain, a spokesman was quoted by BNA as saying.
"Two people were arrested for planning, preparing and beginning to arm cars with explosive devices as part of a terrorist plan aimed at destabilising Bahrain," the official said.
The plot was to have been carried out during Eid al-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan and which began on Friday, the official added, saying they were targeting "ten well-chosen sites."
The latest incident comes 10 days after Bahrain charged 23 Shiite activists with forming a "terror network" aimed at toppling the Sunni-dominated government.
The archipelago state was plagued in the 1990s by a wave of Shiite-led unrest which has abated since the authorities launched steps to convert the Gulf emirate into a constitutional monarchy.
